Took this out of the Just How Many 115tdi turbos Trip Out thread

 

 

Some of the earlier posts on this subject, mention sudden loss of power which is immedietely restored after switching off engine and restarting, without any mention of any warning indicators. Could these posts be suffering from a dodgy MAF (air flow sensor) rather than turbo problems? Am I right in thinking that if one experiences the turbo problems mentioned in the original post, that a warning immediately appears on the dashboard?

 

 

 

I dont seem to get a warning light coming on when I suffer the loss of power or at any other time come to mention it. Is this light meant to come on when the ignition is first turned? If it is supposed to what is the likely fault? Blown bulb?

The little LED in the top of the door card flashes when the turbo 'trips out'.

Never heard that before. Tried it out earlier today, not very easy trying to watch the road AND the little LED is it? Just about wrapped it round a lamp-post :(

 

No LED came on though. So whats the verdict? Getting a vag-com lead this week so hopefully will be able to get a fault code or two :)

you will find the red light on the door card flashing rapidly is to do with the alarm/immobilizer and will flash if you turn the ignition off/on too quickly poss as it has been unable to do its self test

As regarding the turbo tripping out (limp mode) there are usually no warning lights when it happens but cycling the ignition off/on clears the fault but the problem will be stored in the ecu memory and only diagnostic's like vag.com will be able to access it, most generic readers wont be able to tell you the fault.

For reference the engine management light is the glow plug light, if this isn't on then most generic obd readers are a waste of time as they wont link into the system

The pink ones are fine on their own

its when i mix them i'm knackered :lol:
